Neighborhood Review: The Mill District!

Neighborhood Review: The Mill District!

Convenience, Community, and Character. Three of many words used to describe the Mill District in Minneapolis. Located just north east of downtown, the Mill district is the perfect place to be near downtown but not fully immersed. No matter what your interests are, this neighborhood covers them all.

Convenience. Less than a mile from the North Loop neighborhood, Target Center/Field, just a few blocks to HWY 35/94 and US Bank Stadium, you cannot beat this location. You are just minutes from the University of Minnesota campus as well, making this location amazing for multiple careers. Whether you are a professor at the U, someone who works in the corporate world downtown, or are retired and looking for a walkable location you won’t find anything better. Along with the convenience to businesses and highways, this neighborhood also provides access to countless restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and more. From the local pub, Maxwells with great food and drinks, to the wonderfully updated and modern Millys wine bar, along with the Minneapolis Pickleball Club in the area as well, you’ll never have to leave the neighborhood.

Community. While the mill district is within walking distance of downtown, the sense of community is truly unmatched with other metro neighborhoods. Leave the impersonal staff and employees of big city life behind, and have the familiar feeling most places you go in the area. The residents of the neighborhood truly push to keep the community feeling in the area as well. From one of the best farmers markets in the city, to yoga in the park the community welcomes those from all ages!

Character. Metro areas are often lacking in character and charm. That’s another reason the residents and visitors LOVE the mill district. The area does have skyscraper after sky scraper, but instead it has a mix of apartment buildings, condos, smaller historic buildings, and one of the most beautiful theaters in town at the Guthrie. Don’t forget to stop by Gold Medal Park with some of the largest open green space downtown.

When we asked a couple of our past clients why the love the Mill District so much, they shared a couple of things that are worth sharing. Here are some direct quotes from June:

“I love being able to walk and bike along the river (both East and West, both upriver and downriver) and/or head west to the Chain of Lakes/Grand Rounds bike paths.”

“I love that I can walk to the Target Center, US Bank Stadium, The Armory (just went there on Monday!) and The Berlin.”

“I love that I can walk across the bridge and see a movie at the Main Cinema”

“I love the Stone Arch Bridge festival this weekend and I’m really looking forward to the Aquatennial in July!”

Here are some notes from Kolin:

I love how many things are convenient in the area. You can walk to trader Joe’s and to the mill district farmers market every Saturday

You can walk to the Guthrie or the theater in the round.

You have the stone arch bridge and multiple parks right there.

Super easy to get to multiple restaurants and bars. I love Milly’s, spice and tonic, and Aster Cafe.

Also great for music with how close you are to US bank and the armory
